Accessible Kitchen Design - Where Independence Meets Beautiful Design
The kitchen is the heart of the home—and it should welcome everyone who calls that home theirs.
Accessible Kitchen design
When we designed this stunning kitchen, we had one clear mission: create a space where every family member could cook, gather, and thrive with complete independence. One of our homeowners lives with multiple sclerosis and navigates their world using both a walker and wheelchair. Rather than see this as a design challenge, we embraced it as an opportunity to craft something truly exceptional.
A Note on These Photos:
We completed this installation the day before the Covid lockdown began, which means we weren't able to return for professional photography. What you're seeing here captures the real, lived-in beauty of this space (and yes, those pendant lights are missing their glass shades—I was only able to get these photos and other times the finishing touches have to wait for the next visit!). The authentic functionality, however, speaks for itself.
Smart Design That Changes Everything
The roll-up sink revolution: We eliminated the base cabinetry beneath the main sink, creating an open space that allows for seamless wheelchair access. No more awkward positioning or uncomfortable reaches—just smooth, ergonomic functionality that feels natural and dignified.
Every detail thoughtfully considered:
Handles that actually work: Deep, substantial cabinet pulls that provide a confident grip whether you're standing, sitting, or supporting yourself with mobility aids
The flexible breakfast bar: Perfect for morning coffee with the family, homework sessions with kids, or as an accessible workspace when using a wheelchair
Storage that makes sense: Strategically placed drawers put everyday essentials within easy reach—no more stretching, straining, or asking for help to grab what you need
The microwave with purpose: Since our homeowner relies on their microwave daily, we built a dedicated space right into the peninsula cabinetry at the perfect height for safe, comfortable use

Beyond Accessibility: This is About Living Fully
This isn't just about accommodation—it's about empowerment. Every choice we made ensures that cooking dinner, hosting friends, or simply moving through daily routines happens with grace, independence, and joy.
Beautiful design should never compromise functionality. Here, they work in perfect harmony.
Our Design Philosophy: Function First, Beauty Always
At the core of every project, we dive deep into understanding how you actually live in your space. Your functional requirements aren't constraints—they're the foundation for brilliant design solutions that work seamlessly for your unique lifestyle.
